Double or Triple Your Gift
Ever wish you could make your gift donations to AEHN Annual Fund go further? Through matching gift programs, many companies–small and large–double or even triple individual tax-deductible contributions made by their employees to organizations like the AEHN Annual Fund. Your employer may be one of them.
What are matching gifts?
Matching gifts are a vitally important source of funds for nonprofit charitable organizations. They are also an increasingly important way for companies to allow their employees to direct a portion of the monies earmarked for charitable contribution.
Where did matching gift programs originate?
The idea originated from Philip Reed, chair of the General Electric Board of Directors, who wanted to encourage GE employees to contribute to their alma maters. Reed believed that the incentive to contribute was greater if the company matched the employee’s gift. After the GE matching gift program’s launching in 1954, other companies soon followed suit, and matching gift programs expanded to include donations to non-profit organizations.
