Many patients are prescribed sleeping medications that can increase their risk of falls, confusion, and delirium. With our Albert Einstein Society grant, we created the Natural Sleep Initiative to make sleeping safer.
Patients assessed as a fall risk or patients prescribed sleep aids receive soothing tea and a “Sweet Dreams Kit” with lavender pillow spray, an eye mask, earplugs and tips for relaxation. Plus, nurses provide relaxation videos directly through the Get Well patient TV network.
To date, we’ve seen an 18 percent reduction in overall falls and 40 percent reduction in falls of patients on sleep agents. The Einstein Society recognized the importance of our initiative and provided an opportunity to improve care for our patients.
Together, donors and grantees like us are making a difference. We are Einstein.
